DMP - Deer Management Permits
WThe Deer Management Permit is an extremely effective permit offered by Texas Parks and Wildlife to deer managers. The permit allows for the capture and temporary confinement of native whitetail deer in a permitted enclosure for the purpose of selective breeding.

Studies indicate that bucks in the wild tend to breed five does or less. This limited number of breedings, coupled with varying fawn survival percentages, often means that the best bucks in the pasture are not making a significant genetic contribution to the next generation. The DMP permit overcomes this shortcoming by allowing a buck to be temporarily captured, placed in an enclosure with up to twenty does, and then released back to the pasture the following summer. You may also utilize a buck from a deer breeding pen as a breeder in a DMP pen.

Artemis Outdoors manages many DMP captures each year. We utilize capture methods based on the habitat and terrain of the specific property. A helicopter capture is certainly the most efficient way to complete a DMP capture, but other method such as drop nets or darting are often used when helicopters cannot complete an aerial capture. The DMP permit can be a very effective management tool in improving the genetics on your property. Take advantage of the opportunity provided by TP&W and apply for a DMP permit this season.

TTT – Trap, Transport and Transplant Permits

If your property currently has a very low deer density, you may be eligible for a TTT permit. This permit allows for the capture and movement of wild deer from one property to another. The main purpose of this permit is for restocking efforts. However, in certain cases it may provide a great jump start to the genetics of your native herd. If you have completed the application process through Texas Parks and Wildlife, make certain that you are getting deer from a ranch with above average genetic quality.

MLDP Program
The Managed Lands Deer Permits Program is designed as a reward to those property owners that are actively managing both their deer populations and their native habitat. Extended hunting seasons and transferrable harvest permits are the major benefits of being in the MLDP Program.

ADCP
Too many deer? The Antlerless and Spike-Buck Deer Control Permits (ADCP) program provides landowners an additional mechanism to control overpopulation of white-tailed deer on their property.
